Iran Unveils 23 New Pharmaceutical Products to Boost Drug Self-Sufficiency

Tehran – June 2025 – In a significant move to enhance domestic pharmaceutical capabilities, the Islamic Republic of Iran unveiled 23 new pharmaceutical products during an official ceremony attended by Minister of Health Dr. Mohammadreza Zafarghandi and the head of the Execution of Imam Khomeini’s Order, Seyed Parviz Fattah, at the Barekat Pharmaceutical Industrial Complex.

The newly launched medicines span multiple therapeutic categories, including seven anti-cancer drugs such as Gefitinib, Zoledronic Acid, and Regorafenib. Additional products target cardiovascular diseases, neurological disorders, and include herbal supplements and cell therapy solutions. The list also includes active pharmaceutical ingredients and the Gardisan vaccine for protection against HPV.

According to the Ministry of Health, these innovations—many of which were previously rare or imported—are expected to save over $43 million in foreign currency and significantly improve patient access to advanced treatments within Iran.

Minister Zafarghandi emphasized that the drugs were developed in modern, high-standard facilities, and represent a milestone in Iran’s capacity for advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing. Fattah added that the Barekat complex, established over the past 12 years, now hosts private pharmaceutical firms and stands as a key national asset for medicine production.

The 23 products include seven anti-cancer drugs, six herbal-based supplements, and two cell therapy solutions—many of which were either fully imported or considered scarce. These achievements mark a new chapter in Iran’s strategy for pharmaceutical independence and regional leadership, underpinned by local expertise and strategic investments.
