IRANDOC Revives Iran’s ISKO Chapter; National Conference Planned for 2026

IRANDOC has reactivated Iran’s ISKO chapter dormant since 2019 through new individual memberships and its own institutional membership. The chapter will host a national conference on information and knowledge organization in November 2026, with a regional ISKO event targeted for 2027.

Iran’s chapter of the International Society for Knowledge Organization (ISKO) has been reactivated with the support of the Iranian Research Institute for Information Science and Technology (IRANDOC).
Launched in 2011 under the leadership of Professor Rahmatollah Fattahi, the chapter became dormant after 2019 during the COVID-19 period. In 2025 it resumed activities: 11 Iranian scholars have re-registered with ISKO so far, and IRANDOC has joined ISKO as an institutional member—formally changing the chapter’s status on ISKO’s website from “inactive” to “active.”

The Iran chapter plans to host the 1st National Conference on Information & Knowledge Organization in November 2026 (Aban 1405). If successful, the next target is to organise the ISKO Regional Conference in 2027 (1406). A call for papers for the 2026 event is expected to be issued soon.
