Vietnam’s Ambassador: Iran’s high-tech capabilities are impressive; Hanoi seeks deeper STI ties

Vietnam’s ambassador to Iran praised the country’s advanced tech especially in nano and IT during a visit to Iran’s Innovation House, proposing a tech liaison office in Hanoi and exploring joint projects in agriculture and high-tech fields. Iranian officials welcomed deeper cooperation, offering knowledge-exchange across AI, biotech, medical devices, fisheries, and more.

Vietnam’s ambassador to Iran, Luong Quoc Nguyen, said he was “highly impressed” by the level of technology he witnessed in Iran particularly in nanotechnology and information technologies during a visit to Iran’s Innovation House. He noted that his goal was to gain first-hand familiarity with Iran’s latest technologies and to explore avenues for joint cooperation, adding that he will relay his observations to Hanoi to help pave the way for closer bilateral collaboration. The envoy proposed establishing an Iranian technology liaison office in Hanoi to facilitate scientific exchanges and accelerate strategic partnerships.

Highlighting Vietnam’s strengths in agriculture, fisheries and aquaculture, Nguyen pointed to his country’s successful overseas farming model in Cuba and suggested applying similar joint projects with Iran especially in rice and fruit cultivation given the climatic similarities with northern Iran.

Hossein Rouzbeh, head of the Organization for the Development of International Scientific and Technological Cooperation (under the Vice-Presidency for Science, Technology and the Knowledge-Based Economy), welcomed the delegation and outlined Iran’s STI ecosystem, citing around 11,000 active knowledge-based companies. He said Iran’s science and technology base has helped meet domestic needs despite sanctions and is ready for constructive engagement with friendly countries, including Vietnam.

Rouzbeh expressed Iran’s readiness to share its experience in building a native innovation ecosystem, exchange tech companies, and arrange reciprocal participation in specialized exhibitions—inviting Vietnamese STI officials to visit Iran. He also highlighted cooperation opportunities in agriculture (from cultivation to processing and productivity), fisheries, pharmaceuticals and medical devices, construction engineering, nanotechnology and artificial intelligence. Noting Iran’s national program to train one million students in AI, he said the country is prepared to share both technical know-how and policy experience with Vietnam.
