Health tourism, as a comprehensive concept in the tourism industry, encompasses three main dimensions: medical tourism, nature therapy, and wellness. These dimensions are clearly defined by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO):
Wellness Tourism
Wellness tourism focuses on maintaining and enhancing physical and mental health. This type of tourism includes activities such as yoga, meditation, and the use of spas and wellness centers, all of which contribute to improving quality of life.
Nature Therapy
Nature therapy involves utilizing natural resources, such as mineral waters and mud, for treating diseases. This type of tourism is based on harnessing the therapeutic properties of nature and is typically conducted under the supervision of medical professionals.
Medical Tourism
This dimension refers to trips undertaken for the purpose of receiving medical and healthcare services. Medical tourists often travel to other countries to undergo surgeries or receive treatment for illnesses.
