Shiraz is one of the most beautiful and historical cities in Iran. This city also hosts one of the largest and most beautiful universities in the country, Shiraz University. Shiraz public university, which was established in 1325, is considered one of the top three research-oriented universities in the country and one of the five major universities in engineering fields in the latest ranking of Iranian universities based on scientific output. Now this university has more than 20,000 students with 200 undergraduate courses, 300 master’s courses and 150 doctoral courses. According to the results of the latest ranking of the world’s best universities in 2024, in the QS world ranking system announced annually by the Quacquarelli Symonds Institute, Shiraz University ranks 681 among the best universities in the world, 5th among the best universities in Iran and it is ranked as the second best comprehensive and major university of Iran after Tehran University.
One of the most important facilities of Shiraz University is its dormitories, which currently have 6 boys’ dormitories, 10 girls’ dormitories, and three dormitories for married people. Among the most important facilities of this university, the following can be mentioned: Natural history museum which includes plant, geology, animal, entomology, astronomy, technology, anatomy, coin and stamp sections and taxidermy workshop and Narenjestan Museum and Botanical Garden. It also has sports halls and 9 libraries.

Academic calendar:
According to the academic calendar of Iranian universities, usually the first half of the year starts from the beginning of October (Mehr) and the second half of the year starts from the second half of February (Bahman). But, the start of classes may be held a week earlier or later depending on the occasion and the academic calendar of the university. Also, one week is considered for study before the exams and one or two weeks for the gap between two semesters.
